Hi, I’m Lanell.

In 1998 I was working in accounting at a large tech company. And then I attended the birth of a dear friend and with the baby still gooey in her arms she said to me, “I could never have done this without you.” The power of birth astounded me! I knew I needed to pursue a path to helping more families. I found training and got certified with an international organization and began educating healthcare professionals on the benefits of doulas. When I first started out, we were still explaining our role!

Since then I’ve attended more than 500 births in all kinds of settings, cared for hundreds of families in postpartum and mentored many doulas answering the call. By 2004, I wanted to offer my birth clients more unique and heart-centered childbirth preparation. My doula bestie and I created Conscious Birthing Austin and prepared many hundreds of parents for the wild ride of birth.

What I learned through all of that is during one of the most transformative times of life, mothers often felt isolated, unsupported, and quite uncertain.

When I became a mother in 2007 I decided to shift my focus to creating a safe and nourishing place for new mothers and their babies.

I started with a small group just to test the waters and it was obvious these once a week sessions were filling a need that no family help or friend group could provide. Mothers Unfolding was born!

Over time, mothers told me the bonds they formed were life-saving and continued even after their babies had grown.

Mothers Unfolding refers to the never-ending process of learning in real-time while letting go of expectations. Literally peeling back the layers to find grounding points in every twist and turn of early motherhood. It is in the company of other mothers that we begin to make sense of the monumental identity shift.

I can’t wait to share it all with you.

Lanell is the mother of two radiant kiddos, a dog and a bunny, each of whom have challenged and changed her.

“Lanell is down-to-earth, heartfelt, insightful from her decades of experience. She’s supportive of people's choices and helps clarify the work and journey of becoming a parent and just so dang compassionate.” — Amber
